How to Talk to Your Wife About Starting Counseling

Freedom in Christ Counseling

Talking to your wife about counseling can begin with the relationship concern you want to address, rather than a case against her. Communication, recurring conflict, and feeling disconnected are areas Josh works on with couples. An honest invitation can name your own part in a disagreement and ask whether you can discuss getting professional care together.

01

Name a Specific Relationship Concern

Consider describing a conversation that keeps becoming an argument or a subject you both avoid. Keep the focus on what you want to discuss rather than declaring what your wife needs to change. Counseling can address communication and conflict, but an invitation does not promise how your spouse will respond or what the work will produce.

02

Make Room for Her Questions

Your wife may want to know who Josh is, how faith is included, or whether the work will consider both partners’ concerns. You can point to the marriage and couples page rather than trying to answer every question yourself. If betrayal is part of the situation, acknowledge broken trust without demanding forgiveness as a condition of beginning.

03

Explain the Counseling Foundation

Josh is an Ohio licensed clinical counselor with supervision designation, working from a biblical worldview. He uses CBT, EMDR, and psychodynamic counseling. Couples work includes practical conversations about communication, conflict, and relationship patterns. Faith is taken seriously alongside clinical care and personal responsibility, rather than used to settle an argument about which spouse is right.

How Josh Works

04

Discuss the Appointment Facts

All couples and marriage sessions are in person at the Dayton office. They last 55 minutes and meet weekly or every other week. Josh also sees individual Christian men age 18 and up, in person or by Ohio telehealth, but those individual formats are separate from couples care. He does not offer individual counseling for women.

05

Ask About the Practical Questions Together

Fees and insurance coverage can be discussed in the free 15-minute consultation. The practice accepts Aetna, Anthem, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, and UnitedHealthcare. Benefits are checked before the first session because coverage depends on your plan. Private pay is another option, and superbills may be requested for possible out-of-network reimbursement without a promise of payment.
