Trauma
Past events can remain part of present reactions, even when you would rather leave those experiences behind.
Who It Is For
When the Past Enters the Present
A painful experience may keep shaping how you interpret a disagreement, respond to stress, or understand yourself. Josh works with Christian men age 18 and up and couples on trauma and the concerns connected to it. Counseling considers the events and the current reactions without assuming that every person needs the same conversation.
Begin With the Reactions You Notice
Emotional Responses
Fear, anger, or shame may become connected to a present situation that brings an earlier experience to mind. We examine the specific response and what it means to you.
Relationship Patterns
Past events can affect trust, emotional distance, and the way conflict unfolds. Understanding those connections can give the work a focus without excusing harmful choices in a relationship.
Pacing and Safety
You can discuss concerns about talking through painful material. We pay attention to pacing and how you are responding in the session, keeping your questions about safety part of the conversation.

Clinical Care
EMDR is one method Josh uses.
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing is a clinical method Josh uses for trauma and painful memories. He also uses CBT to examine thoughts and responses, and psychodynamic counseling to explore recurring emotional patterns. As an Ohio Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor with supervision designation, he combines those methods with a biblical worldview.
Faith and Practical Work
The work can begin with what is happening now.
You do not have to explain every event in the first conversation. We can start with the concern that prompted you to seek counseling and discuss your goals. No clinical or spiritual outcome is promised; the focus is honest, practical work on your concerns.
What Sessions Look Like
Sessions last 55 minutes, weekly or every other week. Individual men can choose Dayton appointments or video counseling while in Ohio. Couples meet in person only. In the first appointment, ask how faith and clinical methods will fit into the work you are considering.
Insurance and the First Conversation
The free 15-minute consultation is a place to ask about fees and insurance before starting. Coverage varies by plan, and benefits are checked together before your first session. Private pay is available, with superbills on request for possible out-of-network reimbursement.
