Addictive and Compulsive Behaviors
A repeated habit deserves an honest look at what happens before it, what it offers, and what it costs afterward.
Who It Is For
When a Pattern Keeps Returning
A man may decide to stop gambling or another compulsive behavior and still return to it when stress rises. Secrecy can add another layer to the problem. Josh works with Christian men age 18 and up on addictive and compulsive patterns, including the emotional and relational concerns connected to them.
Understand the Cycle
What Comes Before
We examine a specific episode: the pressure, thought, or emotion present before the behavior. Identifying those connections gives us something more concrete to work on than another promise to stop.
What Keeps It Running
A habit may become tied to how you respond to stress, discouragement, or conflict. Counseling explores that pattern and the beliefs beneath it without treating the behavior as harmless.
Secrecy and Relapse
Hiding what happened can strain a marriage and make accountability harder. We address relapse cycles, honest disclosure, and practical responses that take the effects on relationships seriously.

Clinical Care
Accountability without making shame the answer.
Josh uses CBT, EMDR, and psychodynamic counseling with a biblical worldview. CBT can connect thoughts with actions; psychodynamic work considers recurring emotional patterns. EMDR is one method he uses for trauma and painful memories. Clinical care and personal responsibility belong together when examining a compulsive pattern.
Faith and Practical Work
An honest account gives the work a starting point.
Grace does not require ignoring consequences. We work toward identifying the pattern, acknowledging harm, and practicing different responses between appointments. The conversation can include faith without using shame as the reason you should change.
What Sessions Look Like
Men’s sessions last 55 minutes and happen weekly or every other week, in Dayton or by Ohio telehealth. You must be in Ohio during video appointments. Counseling is not medical withdrawal care; contact a physician if you need medical care for substance withdrawal.
Insurance and the First Conversation
The free 15-minute consultation covers fees and accepted insurance. Benefits depend on your plan and are checked together before the first session. Private pay is also an option, with superbills on request for possible out-of-network reimbursement.
