From the First Call to the First Session

Getting Started

Start with the part you can put into words. Josh can ask questions about the rest.

  1. 01

    Call or Email Josh

Begin with a free 15-minute consultation. Describe the concern that prompted you to reach out and ask whether this practice offers the kind of counseling you are looking for.

  2. 02

    Choose Your Session Format

Men can choose the Dayton office or telehealth anywhere in Ohio. Couples meet in person in Dayton, so both partners should plan for an office appointment.

  3. 03

    Come to Your First Session

The first appointment lasts 55 minutes. We talk through what brought you in, consider your goals, and address your questions about how Christian faith will fit into the counseling.

  4. 04

Put the Work Into Everyday Life

Sessions continue weekly or every other week. Practical tools between appointments give you something to try in the situations we discuss, and we can talk about that experience when we meet again.

What to Have Ready

Nothing special. Just a place to begin the conversation.

You do not need a prepared account of your life or a perfect explanation of the problem. Bring the questions you have about counseling, your concerns, and how you want faith included.

Review Insurance and Payment

Read about accepted insurance, private pay, superbills, and cancellation notice. Ask about fees and coverage during the free consultation.

Consider the Counseling Approach

Learn how Josh uses CBT, EMDR, and psychodynamic counseling alongside a Christian understanding of responsibility and grace.

Our Approach

Who Can Begin Here

Josh works with Christian men age 18 and up and couples. Individual concerns may include anxiety, anger, depression, pornography use, or a change in direction. Couples can bring communication problems, emotional distance, or betrayal.

The Work Beyond the First Appointment

Josh uses CBT to examine thoughts and responses, EMDR for trauma and painful memories, and psychodynamic counseling to explore recurring emotional patterns. The methods sit within a biblical worldview rather than asking you to set your beliefs aside.

Personal responsibility and grace both matter as you practice different responses between sessions.

Your Questions

Questions Before You Begin

Do I need to know exactly what is wrong?

No special preparation is needed. You can begin with a concrete concern, such as repeated arguments, overthinking, or a habit you want to address.

Can I ask about faith before scheduling?

The consultation gives you a chance to ask about Josh’s biblical worldview and clinical methods. In counseling, scripture and prayer are included as you want them.

Can my spouse and I start online?

Couples begin with in-person sessions at the Dayton office. Video appointments are an option for men’s individual counseling in Ohio, not for couples.

Ready when you are.
