Rebuilding Trust After Betrayal: Where to Start
Freedom in Christ Counseling
After an affair or hidden pornography use, a starting point is naming the broken trust without demanding that your spouse move past it. Josh works with couples recovering from betrayal in person in Dayton. Counseling can address accountability and each partner’s concerns while recognizing that forgiveness is a process rather than a demand.
01
Describe What Happened Without Minimizing It
If secrecy is part of the betrayal, honest conversation includes that secrecy rather than focusing only on the behavior that was discovered. You can bring the specific concern into the first discussion with Josh. Couples work does not begin with a promise that trust will return or with a timetable that either partner must follow.
02
Both Partners Have Concerns to Bring
The partner who was hurt and the partner responsible for betrayal both receive care in the work. That does not remove responsibility for choices. Counseling can include the impact of hidden pornography use or an affair, the questions each person has, and the accountability needed to discuss the relationship honestly without requiring immediate forgiveness.
03
Clinical Counseling Takes Faith Seriously
Josh holds an Ohio LPCC-S license with supervision designation and integrates a biblical worldview with CBT, EMDR, and psychodynamic counseling. Painful memories, thoughts and responses, and recurring relational patterns can be considered. Responsibility and grace belong together, with faith informing professional care rather than being used to pressure a spouse into overlooking what happened.
How Josh Works04
Trust and Intimacy Are Areas of Work
Rebuilding emotional and physical intimacy over time can be part of couples counseling after betrayal. No outcome or timeline is promised. Sessions last 55 minutes, weekly or every other week, and are in person at the Dayton office only. The first appointment includes the concerns that brought you in, your goals, and how faith fits into the work.
05
Use the Consultation for Beginning Questions
You can ask about betrayal counseling, appointment format, fees, and insurance during the free 15-minute consultation. Aetna, Anthem, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, and UnitedHealthcare are accepted. Benefits are checked together before the first session because coverage depends on the plan. Private pay and superbills on request for possible out-of-network reimbursement are also available.
