Breaking Free From Pornography: First Steps
Freedom in Christ Counseling
A first step in addressing compulsive pornography use is being honest about the behavior, secrecy, and relapse pattern you want to discuss. Josh’s sexual integrity work is calm and non-shaming while taking responsibility seriously. You can ask about counseling without presenting a promise that you will never struggle again or explaining every detail in an email.
01
Name the Pattern Rather Than a Vague Intention
Consider whether your concern involves repeated use, temptation, hiding behavior, or returning to it after trying to stop. Those are areas Josh works on. Describing a recurring pattern gives counseling a concrete focus. Accountability includes honest conversation about choices rather than relying only on a broad intention to become a different man.
02
Secrecy and Broken Trust Belong in the Discussion
If your wife has discovered hidden pornography use, the impact on trust matters alongside the individual pattern. Couples recovering from betrayal meet with Josh in person in Dayton. Forgiveness is discussed as a process, not a demand. Counseling can consider accountability and rebuilding intimacy over time without promising that every marriage will be restored.
03
Faith Without Shame and Clinical Care
Josh is an Ohio Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor with supervision designation. CBT, EMDR, and psychodynamic counseling are methods he uses within a biblical worldview. Thoughts connected to compulsive behavior, painful memories, and repeated emotional patterns may enter the work. Identity in Christ and personal responsibility can be discussed without making shame the method of accountability.
