Pastor Burnout: Recognizing It Early
Freedom in Christ Counseling
Burnout, compassion fatigue, and leadership pressure are concerns pastors and ministry leaders can discuss with Josh. Recognizing that you want care does not require a scored list or a prediction about what will happen next. Josh is active in ministry himself and understands the pressure, while offering licensed clinical counseling rather than another ministry responsibility to carry.
01
Name the Pressure in Plain Words
You might want to discuss emotional weariness, difficulty slowing down, or feeling that you are performing a leadership role. Those concerns can begin the conversation. This guide does not define a diagnostic threshold or claim that every difficult season is burnout. Ask about the actual pressure you are carrying instead of needing a label before contacting a counselor.
02
Your Faith and Role Can Both Be Discussed
Questions about calling, identity, and faith in everyday life have a place in Josh’s work. Pastors and ministry leaders can address those questions alongside anxiety, stress, or relationship strain. Being active in ministry is part of Josh’s understanding of the pressure; it does not turn your appointment into a sermon or require you to maintain a leadership presentation.
03
Clinical Methods Within a Biblical Worldview
Josh is an Ohio Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor with supervision designation. CBT, EMDR, and psychodynamic counseling are methods he uses. Clinical discussion can examine thoughts and responses, painful memories, or recurring emotional patterns. Practical tools are part of the work, alongside personal responsibility, grace, and the Christian beliefs you want to discuss in relation to your concerns.
How Josh Works04
Meeting Outside Your Congregation’s Town
Secure video anywhere in Ohio can make it easier to see a counselor outside your own congregation’s town. You must be located in Ohio during the session. Individual men can also meet at the Dayton office. Sessions last 55 minutes, weekly or every other week. Couples counseling is separate and takes place in person only, even when ministry pressure affects a marriage.

Discuss the Practical Side of Care
The free 15-minute consultation includes questions about counseling, fees, and insurance coverage. The practice accepts Aetna, Anthem, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, and UnitedHealthcare. Benefits are checked together before the first session because coverage depends on your plan. Private pay and requested superbills for possible out-of-network reimbursement are also available. Reimbursement cannot be promised by the practice.
