Communication Patterns That Hurt Marriages
Freedom in Christ Counseling
A repeated argument or an avoided subject can give a couple a specific communication concern to bring to counseling. You do not need to decide which spouse is the poor communicator before beginning. Josh works with couples on communication, conflict, and disconnection in person in Dayton, combining licensed clinical care with a biblical worldview.
01
Notice the Conversation That Keeps Repeating
Describe the subject you disagree about and the response that tends to follow. That may be a disagreement about parenting or a conversation about trust that never feels finished. Keep the concern concrete rather than turning it into a diagnosis of your spouse. A recurring example gives counseling something specific to discuss without predicting how the relationship will change.
02
An Avoided Subject Still Belongs in the Discussion
If you feel disconnected or leave important concerns unspoken, you can name that as part of what brought you in. If hidden pornography use or an affair is involved, broken trust needs its own honest language. Betrayal counseling considers accountability and forgiveness as a process, rather than asking one partner to treat betrayal as only a communication mistake.

How Josh Considers Relationship Patterns
Josh Reed, LPCC-S, is an Ohio licensed clinical counselor with supervision designation. CBT, EMDR, and psychodynamic counseling are methods he uses within a biblical worldview. Thoughts and responses, painful memories, and recurring relational patterns can be considered. Personal responsibility and grace stay connected to the actual concerns, rather than using faith to declare a winner in an argument.
How Josh Works04
From a Conversation Example to Session Goals
The first appointment includes what brought you in, your goals, and faith fit. Couples and marriage sessions last 55 minutes and are in person at the Dayton office only. Weekly or every-other-week meetings include practical tools between appointments. Neither a particular result nor a timeline is promised, and the work can give attention to both partners’ concerns.

Ask About Insurance and Beginning
The free 15-minute consultation covers fees and coverage as well as questions about couples care. Josh accepts Aetna, Anthem, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, and UnitedHealthcare. Benefits depend on your plan and are checked together before the first session. Private pay is available, and requested superbills may support possible out-of-network reimbursement. That reimbursement is not guaranteed.
